San Bernardino County Fire Safety Ordinances

  • Tree Maintenance

    Trim tree limbs up to 6 feet from the ground for trees taller than 12 feet, and remove branches within 10 feet of chimneys or stovepipes. Trees with trunks smaller than 4 inches in diameter and located within 30 feet of structures should be spaced at least 10 feet apart from other trees.

  • Shrub Management

    Remove high-energy-release shrubs like Manzanita, Sage, Juniper, and Ironwood if they are within 15 feet of structures. Maintain a safe distance between shrubs, spacing them at least twice the height of the tallest shrub to prevent fire spread. Clear all dead branches, leaves, and vegetation around shrubs, particularly within 100 feet of structures, to enhance fire safety.

  • Ground Clearance

    Remove grass taller than 4 inches and clear dead vegetation beneath trees and shrubs. Ensure pine needles, leaf litter, and mulch on the ground do not exceed 2 inches in depth.

  • Additional Requirements

    Properly dispose of combustible waste, leaves, and debris. Clear all flammable vegetation within 10 feet of roads and structures to enhance fire safety.
